Review:
"The Aurian Saga" is about a girl called Aurian, daughter of magicians Geraint and Eilin. She lives in a valley close with mother close to the city of Nexis. This is home of both magicians and ruled by the archmage Miathan and also to ordinary folk without magic whom are looked at with disdain by the magicians who think that it is their task to serve them. A rule that is not liked by all the people in Nexis.
Anyway, as the first book begins Aurian is about 13 years old. She spends most of her days in the valley with her animal friends who she can communicate with as all magicians can. One day she encounters a human soldier named Forral, a friend of her late father Geraint who died in a magic accident that devestated most of the valley. They become friends even though her mother is against it at first. But after Aurian nearly freezees do death in a winter storm they become friends. Forral decided to teach Aurian how to fight with a sword. But after a serious accident in which Aurian is almost killed Forral rides to Nexis to get the healer Meiriel to help Aurian. On the way he meets the boy Anvar, son of Miathan and a human woman named Ria. I will not reveal more of this. You will have to read the book to find out. As Aurian is recovering at the magic academy in Nexis she is given the chance to become a magician too as it is her destiny. But she doesnt now that she is being used by Miathan and the weathermage Eliseth for evil purposes. A while later Anvars mothers dies in a fire and he is blamed for her death. He is sold by his stepfather to Miathan and made a servant. And to never reveal that he also is a magician Miathan places a curse on him that will render him great pain if he tries to talk about it. A while later Aurian who is studying magic collapses after studying to hard without food or sleep and Miathan calls for Forral whom after her accident has taken up his soldier career again. He is offered the post of commander at the Nexis garrison. He then returns to Nexis and Aurian who now is about 18 years old. One thing leads to another and the two fall in love although it is forbidden for a mortal and a magician to fall in love - a thing that infuriates Miathan who wants Aurian for his own. And it worsens when Aurian gets pregnant with Forrals child. Miathan then places a curse on her unborn child with the aid of an ancient artifact called The Cauldron of Rebirth so that it will assume the form of the first creature that Aurian will see after her child is born. When Forral one day defies and insults Miathan at a council meetings he has had enough. He forces the healer Meiriel to help her get rid of Aurians child. But Anvar overhears this and tells Forral who rushes too Aurian help. Miathan then uses the cauldron to kill Forral. Aurian and Anvar then flees from Nexis with a woman named Sara wife of Vannor the mayor of Nexis. Aurian realises that she must find three other artifact, The Staff of Earth, The Harp of Winds and the Sword of Flame to battle Miathan. Well. I don't want to reveal anymore of the books. This review is a little shorter than my review of The chronicles of Cheysuli but I dont want to tell you everything that happens. Besides if I reviewed all the books this text would go on forever :) Now go and read this great book series.
