The Children of the Moon, the Unicorns, dream of the coming of the Firebringer, the one who will return their sacred pools to them. He will be the color of night, with a crescent moon on his heel.
Jan, a young colt and the Prince's son, is always up to mischief. When he plays a trick on the lookout, Tek, and gets caught, he is in for quite a few shocks and surprises. The 1st and 2nd of these is that she is a half-grown healer's daughter and that she would set teeth to him. Noone has ever dared to do that to the Prince's son, except the Prince. And, that she would fight him, win, and then humiliate him in front of his father. When a griffin attackes the Unicorns, Jan takes off after the battle feeling guilty and, by chance, finds the griffins mate. With a battle cry, he helps the warriors defeat her. Then, the night before the Sacred Pilgrimage to the Mirror of the Moon pool, the stories of the Firebringer are told and they are all reminded of his coming. With the day of the Pilgrimage comes the next set of surprises for Jan. He learns the Firebringer will be born in Tek's lifetime and could already be there. Want to know who the Firebringer is? and what happens to Jan? Read the book!!
