ordinary horse). Always daydreaming Talia never thought it would happen to

which they were going to marry her off at the age of thirteen! Talia begins
her new life as she is taken into the heart of Valdemar and finds out that
she was to be a Herald and the Queens top Monarch. One with going to a
school with other heralds, Healers and Bards. Talia begins her trials as
people begin to try to get ride of her.. Almost succeeding by drowning her
but her Heralds Magic of mind magic awakens and she is saved. Talia befriends
a young boy named Skif who was a former thief and together they discover a
plot to try to destroy the Queens child and from their Talia just begins to
understand what being a Herald really means and that there was more
happening then meets the eye.
This book is the first of a trilogy and was lackeys first book to a whole new world she has written. Thee are other books on the adventures of the heralds and other characters and all of them can trace links to each other. For anyone who loves reading the dragon riders of Pern I highly recommend this book and all the others. The characters are all well done and you can relate to many of the characters. There's action, magic, plots, death and happy endings.
