Dragonlord Linden Rathan was the last-born of
a race of immortal weredragons. He appeared a normal
man but also has a dragon soul. When he chooses
Linden can change into the great other half. Only one
wasn't perfect, he was searching for his other halves, his
soul twin. Unfortunately, there hadn't been another born
like him in over 500 years yet he refused to give up searching
as he and his fellows Dragonlords watch over the five kingdoms.
Linden soon finds himself off on a trip to one of the kingdoms when the Queen of Cassori dies mysteriously. Called upon by "The Lady" of Dragonskeep Linden doesn't understand why he had to go as a judge, only the Lady told him that for some reason she felt that he had to go. Joined by Kief Shaeldar and Tarlna Aurianne who are a soul-twined couple they soon find themselves deep in a plot where Linden become the target of a secret society of true-humans who could actually destroy his immortal life. The he meets a young beautiful ship captain named Maurynna who, could actually turn out to be more then just the average tru-human. Linden believed he had found his soul-twin at last. But the young women if she was a DragonLord wasn't even noticed at birth by the Truedragons bringing closer to the chaos that all the dragonLords must now face as they still have to do their duty. I really enjoyed this story. The characters were funny and serious and you could feel the hurt and pain that the main character was going threw as he was alone. This was such a different read then from the Dragon riders of Pern. it gives you another view of the imagination. Bertin's first book in this set is extremely readable, has great descriptions, characters, and really neat people to be used as for the evil that can be anywhere.
