This book carries on where Beat To Quarters left off. Captain Hornblower
was given the command of a Ship of the Line, named the Sutherland as award
for his heroics in the Frigate, Lydia in the Pacific. As in the first volume,
we see Hornblower as calculating as ever, and taking more risks now that he has a boat
that was made by the Dutch.
In several exciting adventures that take him to the coasts of France and Spain, we
see Hornblower rising to the occasion and finding ways to harass the French and the ever
elusive prize-money. Culminating in a 4 on 1 ship battle, you will have to read the
book to find out what happens. I recommend this book to anyone who likes an exciting
sea adventure, as well as one that takes place during a momentous period of world history.
