The Doctor and Sam attend an auction for an artifact of incredible power that has profound implications for the Doctor and the entire universe. The first thing is to say that this is a suberb book from a superb writer. Miles is in total control of what he does, displaying flair, imagination, wit - and he's not afraid to experiment either. The pacing of the book is perfect, the narrative style intelligent, yet easy to follow. The bidders at the auction are a fascinating collection, the darkest of which are the guests from Faction Paradox. (They will feature as recurring villains in future Who novels.) The ending is ingenious to say the least, with as many, if not more, questions being raised than answered. If reading this book doesn't hook you on Doctor Who, nothing will!
