Synopsis: The Second Doctor, Jamie and Zoe land in late 21st century Earth, which has been decimated by an alien race, the Myloki. Almost nothing is known about them and now, the remaining defenders of Earth must find a way to stop the second invasion... Because this time, there may be no stopping the Myloki... Except, of course... The Indestructible Man... And the Doctor...

Review: For me, Doctor Who has been a "love it or hate it" affair. You can't "like" Doctor Who, you simply can't. You instantly develop strong feelings for each and every bit, be it good or bad, there's no middle ground. The Indestructible Man for me was a bit of a disappointment. It was a pretty good read, but it was simply far too grim, with far too many pieces to keep track of. Perhaps it was just me reading it through too quickly (as is what I usually do, then slowly taking in the finer details), but it just didn't excite me.

With other novels, I can usually find a certain piece of dialogue (or one line quote) or some incident which I really enjoy. I found none of this in The Indestructible Man. This was a slightly strange novel and reminds me of many sci fi movies where "If you came out of this with more answers than questions, you simply didn't understand it at all." I guess this is what The Indestructible Man tries to do, with a bit of action and human drama thrown in... But I, for one, didn't think it did the entertaining bit well.

Perhaps it's the Second Doctor. While he's done well... There's no sense of the Second Doctor era here. Perhaps I should explain. In the Second Doctor stories, he'd stand back, make a few observations, then when the other characters all get into strife, they turn to the Doctor and he'd brighten up and tell them what to do. And they'd do it, or else there's big trouble.

But here... I never got that sense. The Doctor, Jamie and Zoe are barely used here and in my opinion, if this were a movie, they'd be "Also Starring" instead of "Starring" or "Co-Starring". In other words, a good sci fi novel... But not a good Doctor Who one.
