In The Ghost of the Revelator, Columbian Doktor Johan Eschback returns in L.E. Modesitt's second of three alternate history novels of America as it could have been. Retired from the intelligence service, and teaching enviromental science at the University of New Burges; the last thing Johan wanted was more excitment in his life. But when his wife, classical soprano vocalist Llysette du Boise recieves an invitation to sing in the the Mormon ntaion of Deseret, their quite existance is shattered. While his wife prepares for making her first CD, and conducting evaluations of the Mormon musical students in Deseret; Johan is dragged back into the spy buisness without so much as a 'by your leave'. As the deadly game of intruge intensifies, leading to Llysette's kidnapping, Johan is left wondering whose game he is playing in political maneuverings towards war. 'The Ghost of the Revelator' is just another proof of Modesitt's litterary prowess. Where his fantasy novels are a leading work in their own right, combining fantasy to science fiction brilliantly, his alternate history novels mix a similar vein of fantasy to that of espionage and other realities. Just one more book that every fiction affectionado most definately must read.
