Psychohistory: Fortune-telling, or real, practical science? That is the question that Hari Seldon has to answer whenever he is asked about the new scientific branch of mathematics that he developed. In brief, it is a method of predicting future events that encompass large groups of people by using statistical data and complex mathematical formula. Using this method, Hari Seldon can predict, on the Galactic scale, the future history of a Galactic Empire that has been degenerating for more than a thousand years. This book follows along the lines of Prelude to the Foundation, and we see the first glimpses of what psychohistory can accomplish. Prequel of the, in my opinion, amazing Foundation Trilogy, this novel helps to explain more about the man, Hari Seldon, rather than the legend that he is seen as by the people of the two Foundations in later years. With intrigue, Imperial assassinations, military juntas, and Seldon hating the fact that he is getting older, this book will help to explain the intricacies that make up the evolution of psychohistory. I definitely recommend this book to any lover of science fiction and knowing that Isaac Asimov is a master of that art, you will not be disappointed.
