Well, to start with, I was VERY concerned when I saw The Bourne Legacy on the shelf. Who would dare try to write a Jason Bourne novel. Robert Ludlum died 4 years ago - who could possibly step into those shoes? Fortunately, the author's name on the book was Eric Van Lustbader. I have read ALL his books (and they will eventually find their way into the Library) and is one of my favorites. According to the flyleaf, the Ludlum family estate gave Van Lustbader permission to continue the story. All I can say is WOW!

This one caught me completely off guard. Another assassin! and a good one too, who was after our almost 50 year old, retired and a bit out of shape David Webb. He and Marie are still living happily ever after. Until something so shocking and unthinkable happens that the persona of Jason Bourne completely takes over David Webb and sets in motion a non-stop ride that will keep you up all night.

Someone murders Alex Conklin and Mo Panov, the two most important people to David/Jason other than his wife and family. This sets off a chain of events that again sets Jason off on a whirlwind search around the globe seeking the killer and the secrets of his life still hidden somewhere in his memory. Not everything has come back to him, and what he is told by Kahn shakes him to his very core.

The introduction of Kahn, and his story is heartbreaking, cruel, and so real that it gives you the shivers. Van Lustbader really puts a spin on this one that is so hard ot believe i had to read and re-read sections over and over again.

This books takes us from the city of Nairobi to Budapest, New York City, Crete, Chechnya and Reykjavik. International politics, murder, terrorism, CIA, mercinaries, torturers, disease - its all in here and heaven help the people who get in Bourne's way.

There is a very surreal connection with todays world ridden with terrorism and the lengths these fanatics will go to continue their Jihad. And Jason Bourne is in the middle of it. Eric Van Lustbader has sone a heck of a job bringing Jason Bourne back to life after 14 years and I certainly hope that this one gets the same respect as the previous books by Robert Ludlum. This author deserves our thanks and respect for continuing one of the best story lines ever written!
