Over the course of many years, I kept hearing about this classic novel by Richard Matheson, a classic up there with the likes of Dracula. John Saul and Stephen King both named this on their top horror stories of all time.

In I am Legend, humanity has been taken over by a plague that has turned everyone into vampires. One man, Neville, has survived this plaque. His existance is a lonely one and he uses his time trying to figure out a cure for this "disease" with no success. He dispels many myths about vampires, like the fact that crosses should harm them. They do, but only for Christian vampires, for Muslins and Jews and others, the icons that would harm them are different.

This book is very short, readable in one sitting, but also it's very easy and fast paced. There's really no gore in it, unlike most modern day vampire novels.

One of the most original books I've ever read, I recommend it to any vampire enthusiast. It is a must read.
