Synopsis: One night, Vittorio's family is butchered by vampires. The gorgeous Ursula spares Vittorio to make him her reluctant undying sweetheart. Ursula's ravishings of Vittorio recall the erotica Rice wrote under her own name and the pen names Anne Rampling and A.N. Roquelaure.

Vittorio flees to the creepy town of Santa Maddalana, which has made a pact to sacrifice its young to Lord Florian's vampire horde. Vittorio is bent on revenge as he invades the eerie Court of the Ruby Grail (i.e. blood), as angry with the child-sacrificing humans as he is with Florian's fang gangsters.

Review: Over the past few years, Anne Rice's novels have taken a downward turn from excellent to poor. With personal issues such as the death of her husband, you can see why the last few books of hers have not been up to par.

Vittorio wasn't a bad book. Not was it a great book like Interview with the Vampire. I did read this book in a day so it wasn't poorly written, or worse, boring. I felt bad for the way Vittorio lost his entire family. The vampires though needed work. It seemed to me as if they were big wusses in the book and they whined a lot. I just thought none of them had any sort of character or personality.

This book just wasn't so great compared to earlier work. It wasn't as bad as other stuff of Rice's, like Violin. I can only wait for the day that Anne Rice comes out with another great vampire novel.
