The Willow Files, Volume 1

Rating:
Author: Yvonne Navarro
Series: Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Review by: CL5 Dracmus

Synopsis: "I mean , I'm not like a full-fledged witch - that takes years. I just did a couple of pagan blessings and teeny glamour to hide a zit." -Willow

Willow Rosenberg, a Jewish girl who loves computers and school. She lives in Sunnydale a hellmouth. She had a normal life, well as normal as it can get in a hellmouth till her friend Buffy came to live here. Now she is one of the Slayeretts, together with Xander, Giles and Cordelia they help Buffy getting ride of the demons who live in their neighbourhood. And studying witchcraft.

Review: The book, as it says are the files of Willow. Or better notes from her diary. It contains three stories. Each one about some sort of demon, you can't imagine how many different kinds of demons there are. Read how this group of friends manages to survive in a hellmouth. Where nothing is normal. Expect the unexpectable...

I, Robot.. You, Jane
"The one boy that´s really liked me and he´s a demon robot. What does that say about me?" -Willow

Willow is helping Giles to scan all the ancient books into the computer. The friends are just hanging out in the library. Then weeks later Willow get's mail from a mysterious guy. And she finds him sweet. She keep in contact, but at the same time the computer gurus at school start acting strange...

Phases
"I like you. You´re nice and yo´re funny and you don´t smoke, and okay, werewolf, but that´s not all the time. I mean, three days out of the month I´m not much fun to be around, either." -Willow

Sunnydale looks a little normal. Willow and Buffy are talking girl talk. Boys watching girls...normal stuff. Then there is a wild dog attacking people in Sunnydale. Killing them and then eating them. Then on the other day, there is a full moon. Then Oz thinks about the wound on his finger, where a dog bit him.....

Dead man´s Party
"Do you Like my mask? Isn´t it pretty? It raises the dead!.....Americans!" -Giles

Her mother has taken a Nigerian artifact home from the museum and fixes it to the wall. Buffy´s mom has thrown her a welcome back party. Buffy is to get the company plates out for this. A dead cat drops from the shelf, just when she wants to get the box plates. They bury the cat. That night, the eyes of the mask glow. The next morning, Buffy´s mom wants to get the papers and that same cat walks back in....

The stories are just like the episodes from the series. But somehow they menage to let you see these in a new way. From the Willow point of view. They do that in a very nice way. Except the last story. It is more like a Buffy story. With every friend explaining his or her point of view in why she never contacted them. It is an easy book to read. Just see it as three books in one. Read one story every night. Or the whole book in an afternoon. It even has some great pictures in it from Willow and the Slayeretts. Oh and Giles of course.

Based on the TV series Buffy: The Vampire Slayer, created by Joss Whedon and the teleplays: "I Robot...You Jane" by Ashley Gable & Thomas A. Swyden, "Phases" by Rob DesHotel & Dean Batali and "Dead Man's Party" by Marti Noxon.
