The Bone Collector is the first book by Jeffery Deaver that I read and was immediately taken in by his style, plot development, characters and immense amount of research that had obviously gone into the book. that siad - here's what it is about.

Lincoln Rhyme is recognized as the "Father of Forensics", the man who wrote the book on gathering, researching and putting together all the evidence found at a crime scene in order to determine "whodunit". Lincoln is injured in a freak accident and is now bedridden, a quadriplegic. And he is miserable, cranky, mean, and contemplating suicide. He has a demanding, nasty and obnoxious personality and takes his fristration out on everyone around him.

And then, there is a murder. Amelia Sachs, a feisty cop finds evidence of a crime, stops a train and is talked/walked through the crime scene by Rhyme via technology and eventually they team up, very reluctantly, with some of his past cohorts and partners to find The Bone Collector.

This book never stops! If you saw the movie, you will be very pleased that it does follow, very accurately, the novel. But there is much more to the characters than can be portrayed by actors and that is the secret to the book. The relationships between Lincoln and his friends, caretakers and especially Amelia is complex and brutally honest.

This is a definite all nighter!
