Two Defiants, two Dax symbionts, and a lot of trouble!

One Dax and a Defiant seperated in time by 5000 years has been discovered in the core of a comet in the Sol system, by ice miners. Starfleet wants to know if this has anything to do with the Furies that Picard dealt with a short time ago, or is an elaborate hoax?

Sisko, Dax and Bashir are summoned to Star Base One, the oldest and least usefull Starbase in the Federation, to confirm or deny whether they will (have been?) be thrown back in time and be killed in a battle with the Furies 5000 years ago! Kira Nerys on DS9, has her own troubles though when she finds a cell of Bajoran terrorists that says that Starfleet is as bad as the Cardasians, and decide to blow up the station.

They escape the station after a firefight, and are chased by Kira and Odo. As they close in on them, they come across a freighter that has, for no apparent reason, stopped in space. What is even stranger is the total lack of any engine signature. They investigate and find that the freighter has been sliced open and the engine removed. Meanwhile, at Starbase 1, it has been confirmed that the Defiant is going to be destroyed in a future (past?) engagement with what the Furies were fighting 5000 years ago.

The Dax that was found in the old Defiant has been in stasis for that long, and Jadzia and Bashir decide they should take it back to DS9. But now the wormhole is danger of being destroyed forever. Sisko returns to DS9, and they have to stop what will happen if the Defiant goes back in time. What happens next? Read the book and find out.
