Dave Marinaccio's book "All other things I really need to know I learned from watching Star Trek: Next Generation" provides us with a new and wonderful refreshing perspective on Star Trek. Despite the unneccesarily long title for the book. This is Dave Marinaccio's second star trek book. I read this book solidly in a matter of hours, I liked it so much I even read it twice. This book does not tell a story and it is most certainly not just a dull and endless list of things to be learnt from Star Trek as one may well expect. Instead, I was pleasantly suprised to read this intelligently written book by a very clever and obviously thoughtful author. As I personally read along, I would often pause and think about what had been said. I am sure many will agree with me that any book that can stimulate fresh new and exciting thought deserves an award. Inside the book it seems that everything is discussed from the characters of Next Generation, Deep Space Nine and Voyager, and the human race. The author constantly relates his observations on Star Trek to everday life here on planet Earth. Amongst all of these things the author tells us anecdotes, amusing and otherwise, from his life to help illustrate his points throughout the book. Dave Marinnacio has a wonderful talent. He has a marvelous way of seeing the world clearly and making us think about the big picture. I think the book can be summed up perfectly in one word . . . inspirational.
