Space - the final frontier; these are the voyages of an ever-growing Federation. It's ongoing quest to explore the vast reaches of the galaxy, and to achieve peaceful and diplomatic relations with all species as they seek out new frontiers of exploration and adventure.

In the final book of New Earth we see the closing of a memorable adventure and the end of an era. New doors are opened and old ones closed. The crew of the Enterprise is packing up for the long journey back home, while a new ship; the USS Peleliu closes in to take over protection of Belle Terre.

But on the way, Peleliu is attacked and the most of the crew critically wounded. The ship is left in tatters and the Captain has gone insane. Only a young Lieutenant Commander Nick Keller is left to take command of the protection of over 60,000 lives, with no ship, a skeleton crew, and a galaxy of trouble at his doorstep.

A series of thefts have taken all of the Quasar Olivium that has been mined from what remains of the Quake Moon, and there has been no warning or explanation for these events.

In the midst of all this, McCoy and Uhura sit, held prisoner by a crew of prison escapees on a mining ship. Dr. McCoy is ill, and could die, and Uhura must decide to sacrifice her dignity in order to save their lives, or to sacrifice their lives to save the Belle Terre Colonists.

In Book Two, Captain Sun left the colony to search for another habitable planet in case they might have to evacuate. He never returned. The mystery of his disappearance, and the death and ruin of dozens of solar systems is revealed. The Enterprise must fight off this new threat and deal with the Kauld at the same time as their desperate alliance with the Blood begins to shake.

Is there any hope?

5 Pips - an unbelievable and remarkable story of the greatest science fiction series ever told
