Synopsis: There's a small text in the begining of the book which tells the story about the anthropologist Mamoon Hoole, member of the Shi'ido race, who has, thanks to a special ability his race has, collected a heap of information about diferent species in the Star Wars galaxy. The Essential Guide to Alien species is the result of his research. Review: This is one of the best Essential guides. Did you for example know that Duros and Neimoidans are actually the same species, or did you know that a Hutt is pregnant for fifty years before it gives birth??? Or do you want to know the diference between the two types of Gungans??? Then get the Essenital guide to Alien species. It has info on everything from Amanin to Zeltron, and Jawas to Ewoks. This book has great drawings of the different species and in addition to the text which describes the species, there is also a small text for each species which is made to look like they have been written by people from the Star Wars Universe. For example, on the page that has info on the Gundark, there is a text about the reason that there are two completely different species called Gundark. Or if you look at the page about the Oswaft, there is a text, which Lando Calrissian is supposed to have written which describes a special ability the Oswaft have. And if you are interested in the Yuuzhan Vong, there are four pages which describe the Vong and some of the bioengineered species they use. At the end of the book, there is a guide which describes how the names of the diferent species are pronounced, what planet they come from, and how the name of that planet is pronounced. This book is filled with interesting info! Some people however, will be missing info on the Zabrak (Darth Maul's race), and myself, I think it would have been really cool if the author had managed to write a descripion of the Human race as if written by a Non-Human. But this IS a great book. No doubt about it.
