The introduction to this book was written by Kevin J. Anderson, one who, as we all know, is very familiar with the Star Wars Galaxy. He is also a long time friend of Dave Dorman, who has painted some of Anderson's book covers as well as some of the graphic novels. Take the time to read the intro - you can see that the appreciation for the art is shared by not only the fans, but by the writers that, with words, paint the pictures Dorman brings to life. The book explains how Dave Dorman started his career, how he connected with Star Wars, and goes into great detail as he walks us through some of his more recognized pictures, posters and book covers. Some of the artwork in the book was never used, or it was changed during the process. It was interesting to see how, from a small sketch, the images and colors were added and refined, again and again, into the beautiful pictures we are all familiar with. The tiniest details are so very important to Mr. Dorman's work, and you can see that in the excellent reproductions of the book covers. Much is lost in the "printing" process that can now be seen on these pages. If you fancy yourself an artist, or just appreciate the work; if you would like to try your hand at an illustration of one of your favorite scenes or characters, take some time and study Dave Dorman's work in this book. You will definitely learn something, and who knows - maybe someday, we will have a book like this about one of our members, right here in the Outpost Library.
