The Essential Guide to Droids is a stellar book for old and new fans to the Star Wars Universe. The design schematics/information and the listing of the Droids by name make this book an easy to use yet informative book.

The exact specs of an R2 Astromech to the history of the R5 series is available. Information that was never really understood or hard to find is revealed: Like why the Dark Trooper series of droids never made it into full production for the Empire. Information concerning those droids was mentioned only in passing, like the Gladiator Droids that Rebo fought at "Stars End."

Similar to the Guide in the front of most of the previous "Essential Guides", there is a layman's guide to companies and major manufactureres. The opening is very useful to those not familiar with the many droid production companies, half of which have been rarely or never heard of. And there are others that you never would have guesses produced droids.

Unfortunately, there is a downside to all this unique and intersting information. Fortunately this downside is only minor. The book isn't as detailed with the specs as I would like. All in all, I would recommend this book highly to old and new fans alike due to its wealth of info and easy to read format.
