Synopsis: Political intrigue and backstabbing, romance and adventure - it is all here set against the backdrop of another tale set 5 years after "The Return of the Jedi". Once more we find the ugly battle of good verses evil the main plot. Althought the Emperor and Darth Vader are gone, the Empire itself still exists, the war is far from over and the Rebel Alliance finds their fragile peace slowly crumbling away. As a new threat looms in the person of a Grand Admiral and a mad Jedi Master who has an agenda all of his own, our heroes are again thrust into the line of fire.

Review: As the back cover of the book states "the adventures continue." The story opens with the threat of the Empire hanging over the New Republic in the form of a new enigmatic leader, Grand Admiral Thrawn. He is plotting to win back the Empire and destroy the New Republic by using far more subtle plans than any of his predecessors. He has also formed an uneasy alliance with a Jedi Master who is not all that he seems.

We also see the familiar faces of Han Solo and Leia Organa who are now married. Leia, tied down with the diplomatic duties as Head of State in the New Republic, is torn between her allegiance to her job and her future as a wife and mother to be. We also find Luke doing alot of soul-searching. They all soon realize they have much more to worry about after Leia is attacked in a diplomatic mission to Bimmisari.

In between the New Republic and the Empire are the smugglers Talon Karrde and Mara Jade. The story keeps you guessing as to whose side they are on, especially Mara Jade whose past is more than a mystery. We find out that the threat from the Empire is really far from over and our heroes have their hands full, not only from outside influences but dissention from within, causing upheaval and upset too.

The writer keeps the story going along at a steady pace, giving the reader time to adjust to the new characters and players in this adventure. The story really picks up after Han and Lando set off to get help from the smugglers. The story starts to intertwine and picks up speed, opening the door to the second book of the trilogy, and leaving the reader wanting more.

Synopsis: Guaranteed to keep you awake at night reading! This book is a real thriller. Just another of those books with a high climax all the way through. This was one of the first novels I read, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Review: A new threat presents itself to the Galaxy after Zsinj and Isard. That new threat is Grand Admiral Thrawn. The Grand Admiral is a brilliant tactical genious who is bent on restoring the Empire. His style is unique. Instead of using deadly superweapons such as the Death Star to fulfill his objectives, he uses amazing tactics which are just as deadly - even more threatening.

He is forming an Alliance with a Dark Jedi Master named Jorrus C'boath, clone of the Jedi Master Jorus C'boath, a Jedi who died in the Clone Wars. Leia is still busy as ever as a diplomat, and is also pregnant with force-sensitive twins. Han is just Han for the most part, and Luke is soon to build a new Jedi Academy. And now, the New Republic is under siege. Just what will happen? Read and find out!

Excellent book. I'm an action lover, and this is a favorite of mine. Any other comments would duplicate the previous ones, so that's all I have to say.
