Synopsis: Vision of the Future (VOF) is the second book in the duology called "The Hand of Thrawn" written by none other than Timothy Zahn, the author of the "Heir to the Empire" triology. In "Specter of the Past" (wich was the first book in the duology), a few datacards was discovered near the destroyed Mount Tantiss cloning facility. One contained proof that the Bothans were behind the Camaas masacre and another was marked "The Hand of Thrawn". The latter was so damaged that no information could be retrieved from it. The people of the New Republic demand vengence for the Caamas massacre, and hundreds of previous conflicts start up again, using the revelation of Bothan involvement in the Caamas massacre as an excuse.

Admiral Pellaeon, now the supreme commander of the Empire, has convinced the remaining eight Moffs that the only hope for the Empire to survive is to try to negotiate a peace treaty with the New Republic. One Moff, Moff Disra, however has made a plan to get the Empire back to it's previous heights, using an actor named Flim, who has undergone surgery that makes him look like Grand Admiral Thrawn. He is going to scare the Republic into surrender.

Review: The Republic is on the brink of civil war. In addition, Republic planets are starting to defect to the Empire, after being convinced that Thrawn has returned.

Luke arrives at Nirauan, where Mara has been searching for The Hand of Thrawn. Luke traveled there because it appeared as if she had been injured. He meets a winged creature, a Qom Qae named Child of Winds, which leads him to the the Qom Jha, the Qom Qae's rivals who have been taking care of Mara. He convinces them to work together and help Luke and Mara through a cave system on the planet.

Han, Lando, Lobot and a Verpine called Moegid goes to the Empire's capital planet, Bastion in search of a copy of the Camaas documents, which hopefully will contain an exact list of the Bothans responsible. Talon Karrde and Shada D'ukal goes to the mysterious planet Exocron in search for Jorj Car'das, the man that started Karrde's organization, allso in search of the Camaas documents. Meanwhile, Garm Bel Iblis prepares a strike on the Imperial base Yaga Minor, where they hope to find a copy of the Camaas document.

First of all, this is a long book, nearly 700 pages. It can be hard to keep track of all the different things that's happening. This duology is a must for all you Thrawn-addicts out there. A lot of new information about him is revealed in this book. This is a very good book. It is filled with action and excitement, and for people who liked the "Heir to the Empire" triology, you should read these books (these books could allmost be considered a continuation of the triology).
