Synopsis: Twenty five years after the destruction of the first Death Star, the alien race from another galaxy known as the Yuuzhan Vong continue their assault, striking deeper and deeper into the heart of known space. Many planets have fallen to these ruthless invaders abd it seems nothing can escape their might. The only hope the New Republic has may lie with the secluded Hapans. The massive fleet of the Hapan Cluster may have the fire power and, with a plan thought up by a New Republic Commodore, they may be able to beat back these creatures so bent on purging all current inhabitants to create their own twisted home

Review: Leia Organa Solo continues to work for SELCORE, the New Republic branch which helps refugees find safe places to stay. Her work is doubled when she relocates refugees to a world in the path of the Yuuzhan Vong. She tries desperately to help the families of these people, while her own continues to drift further apart. Leia must call for help from the Hapans. They could be a great help to the exhausted resources of the New Republic, and may be the deciding factor in this war.

Han Solo, still lost in grief from the death of his partner and friend, roams the galaxy in search of his captured smuggler friend Roa. While searching for the family members of his new partner Droma may be helping to mend his heart, it is continuing to tear apart the bond between he and his family.

Wurth Skidder, a Jedi and studen t of Master Skywalker, has allowed himself to be captured by Vong forces in hopes of infiltrating their ranks and maybe find more information on these conquering foes. Will he be able to find the secrets to winning this desperate war, or will his efforts be in vain, leading to his demise?

A New Republic officer, Commodore Brand, hs a plan for a trap that may deliver a devastatinf blow to the Yuuzhan Vong fleet. However, the bait is a very costly one...the Corellian Sector. Their hope lies in young Anakin, who was able to activate the Drall repulsor so long ago. He may be able to reactivate Centerpoint Station and trap the Vong while combined New Republic and Hapan forces tear the Vong ships to pieces.

There were a few decent battle scenes and I, personally, found the new information on the Hapans very interesting. Whether or not it was accurate is anyone's guess. The author has some very interesting ideas about war, abd seems to have some background on that subject. There were far too many boring, diplomatic scenes which tend to get the reader a little side-tracked and start to tune out. I found myself rushing through parts abd skipping others trying to find something decent to read.

The book, in a whole, was not very enjoyable and lacked a lot of the qualities of a good Star Wars novel. James Luceno has had some decent work, but in my opinion, he should stick to Robotech under the alias of Jack McKinney.

The whole Vong series has been rather disappointing. I realize change is necessary to keep things from getting too repetitious or monotonous, but this series is destroying the Star Wars universe I have known and grown to love. However, this is a must for the die-hard fans to keep up with current events. I have been told that the next few are better than this one, andI hope they get a few veteran Star Wars writers to take over and really show them how it's done.
