Old Friends: Padawan Barriss Offee, Jos Vandar, Uli Divini, Tolk, I-Five, Den Dhur, Kaird New Faces: none, really Places: Drongar Synopsis: Separists and Droids against the Republic and Clones on the planet Drongar, with a MedStar hospital in the middle. Just another battle in the ongoing Clone Wars. Jedi Padawan Barriss Offee is still trying to figure out her role in all of this and Jos Vandar realizes exactly what his is. Review: Jedi Healer is the second book in the MedStar series and takes place immediately after Battle Surgeons. Again we are thrown into the fight between the droids and clones in theJasserak Highlands of Tanlassa, near the Qarohan Steppes on the Planet Drongar. Drongar isn't really all that important in the Grand scheme of things but the story told in this duology doesn't focus on the planet as much as it does on the people involved. The battle is not necessarily based on the opponents, but rather on the inner conflicts of the doctors and nurses, bystanders and clones, characters who are there not by choice but by duty or happenstance. Within the plotline, we do have a Jedi Padawan searching for a solution, a surgeon trying to find the answers to his personal doubts, a terrible fight that has to be won or all lives will be lost, and individual heroics and sacrifices that bring home the realities of war, no matter where it takes place. Michael Reaves and Steve Perry have collaborated on an excellent series and gives the Star Wars fan a look into a part of this universe that we have, up to this point, not delved into. Although there is humor in places (obviously these writers watched M*A*S*H), there is also tragedy and loss. The homework and research has been done and it shows in the detail of the characters, the location and the elements brought to bear against the opponents of the battle. As we anticipate the final movie in George Lucas' epic "space opera", we are reminded that there are many facets of the Star Wars universe that are yet to be explored. Let's all hope that after the movie is released, GL doeswn't loose interest and allows authors of this caliber to continue to write about what we love best - Star Wars!
