Synopsis: On the desolate mining planet of Bandomeer, Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan have arrived to start their separate mission. As Obi-Wan begins his work in the Agri-Corps, Qui-Gon's past has finally caught up with him. Qui-Gon now must, again, face his former Padawan, Xanatos.

Review: The book begins where the first book left off. You may have noticed that author Jude Watson has picked up the series where Dave Wolverton stopped. The book is complete with action, drama, suspense, a little humor and characterization.

There are quite a few good lightsaber scenes in the book between Obi-Wan and a few guards.

Also, in the book, "The Dark Rival", we learn that Qui-Gon Jinn is against another Padawan because of his former apprentice betraying him and leaving the Jedi Order. Therefore, this is the main reason Qui-Gon is against choosing Obi-Wan as his Padawan, for fear of being betrayed once again.

Jude Watson also lets us meet a few more characters, such as funny Phindian Guerra and a former Jedi-Apprentice - now following the dark path - Xanatos. Hopefully we can see some more of these characters, and new ones too, in the up coming books in the series.

Another good aspect Jude Watson brings to her writing is the drama and suspense. The drama, such as one of the mines blowing up, but she also adds humor to even out the story. The suspense in the book pretty much leaves you yearning for the next book in the series to come out.
