The New Republic is struggling in it's battle against the Yuuzahn Vong. They have been harrassing New Republic planets, and present themselves as a serious threat. Review: The unknown species that was mentioned in Vector Prime is the Yuuzahn Vong. They are a deadly species. Their ships are made out of organic materiel. The ships themselves can collapse the shields of an X-wing and, with a small version of a black hole, can suck lasers into it and prevent damage to the ship. They are a species from outside the known galaxy. Hyperspace travel outside of the galaxy is impossible, but somehow, the barrier into our galaxy is breached by them. The help of the Jedi is needed to help thwart this threat, but that may not be enough. This species cannot be sensed through the Force. They must face this threat and destroy it, or the New Republic will collapse. To stop the Yuuzahn Vong, they must learn more about them. More problems arise. Luke Skywalker's wife, Mara Jade, is dying. She is sick with a disease that is weakening her strength. The doctors have not found a way to cure it. The only way she can be healed is through the Force. And the Provinical Council ignore's Leia's warning of the Yuuzahn Vong threat, only because they are in control. What will happen now? I thought this book was OK. It kept me interested in finding out the result of the story. But it certainly wasn't the best book in the world. One thing it lacks is magnitude. If the Yuuzahn Vong is a threat not to be taken lightly, that could destroy the New Republic, why isn't there an all out war happening? I expect the next one in line to be better.
